Introduction

The UltraSense monitor has been developed to a point where it has been successfully commissioned for trial within hours of delivery to the factory. Essential requirements to achieve this are: a detailed survey of the line including clearances and accurate measurements of line height for each cable size and good planning.

UltraSense installation requirements.

  • a solid mounting capable of supporting the 500kg weight without movement,
  • a clean source of water: ideally this should be softened to prevent build-up of scale within the instrument. The UltraSense has a closed loop recycling system for water and once charged it only requires replacement when the filters are replaced, or earlier if there is significant contamination from the cable.
  • A 220 volt to 240 volt 50/60hz 1kw supply
  • A data link either through the factory network or via a modem: this will facilitate the remote setup and monitoring of the equipment for support and training

VPN:
A key element in the speed with which we can commission UltraSense on a new line is a remote VPN link either over the factory network or via dial-up through the phone lines. This enables the engineers at IPEC to supervise the calibration of the cables and where necessary to optimize the setup remotely. This has a two-fold benefit of achieving early success with the equipment and enabling remote training of factory staff.
