About the Role

You will be a key member of the IT team ensuring that the operation of all IPEC IT is kept running efficiently and effectively. The role is integral to the smooth running of IPEC with customer data coming to centralised servers from around the world. We strive to ensure our customers are supported as well as their systems. The successful candidate will also be involved with the development of our products providing support to both the Manufacturing and Service teams with production, testing and commissioning systems. With a global customer base, this can mean travelling around the world to help directly on the installation and commissioning.
The successful candidate will have experience working in a busy customer focused environment, we are looking for someone who is an enthusiastic individual with excellent communications skills and proven track record. A proactive and energetic person with a desire to contribute collaboratively to the development of the team and the company.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining digital systems globally.
  • Maintaining in-house servers, SANs, networking and security.
  • Developing solutions for customer’s requirements efficiently.
  • General office maintenance (Windows clients, VoIP).
Essential Skills
  • Advanced Linux (Debian) system administration – package management, Apache, BIND, DHCP, Asterisk, Open VPN.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting network infrastructures.
  • Experience programming in Perl, PHP, bash.
  • Experience with administering and programming databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
  • Version control tools (GIT).
Desirable Skills
  • Web development, APIs (REST, SOAP).
  • Microsoft development C++, Visual Studio Pro.
  • Windows Server/clients.

Software Development Engineer

Job Type: Student Placement/Internship
Duration: 8-12 weeks
Locations: Manchester
Team: Reporting to Embedded Software Engineer

The Project

Development of interface software for a proprietary LCD module. This is a ring-fenced project to write software for an LCD module that will control, and display data from, a microprocessor controlled partial discharge detection system.

  • Phase 1: Programming LCD module.
  • Phase 2: Integrating the LCD in a proof of concept system.

Required Skills
  • Knowledge of embedded systems components: flash memory, serial communication, power supply, etc.
  • Knowledge of and experience with programming languages (C/C++ preferred).
  • Good documentation skills.
  • Ability to read and understand a technical datasheet.
  • Experience working with an IDE and embedded system programming tools would be beneficial.
